# Metrics: dashboards and Explore

> Explore every metric your agents report, split and filter it, and build dashboards of charts, stats, tables, and notes.

**Metrics** gives you direct access to the metrics behind every page in Terma. Use **Explore** to ask a one-off question, and **Dashboards** to keep the charts you come back to.

## Derived and ingested metrics

Every metric carries one of two badges:

* **Derived** — computed by Terma, the same for every agent. Use these to compare across sources.
* **Ingested** — exported by each agent as-is. These carry detail specific to one agent.

## Explore

Open **Metrics → Explore** to build a query:

1. **Choose a metric** from **Recent**, **Derived by Terma — Normalized across harnesses**, or **Ingested from harnesses**.
2. **Choose a measurement.** Counters offer **Increase**, **Rate / second**, and **Latest value**; gauges offer **Latest value**; histograms offer **Average**, **Observations**, **Observation sum**, **Median (estimated)**, and **p95 (estimated)**.
3. **Filter** by attribute and value, and **split** into a series per value of up to four attributes.
4. **Pick a time range** — 5m, 15m, 1h, 4h, 12h, 1d (the default), 7d, or 30d — and a chart style: **Line**, **Area**, **Bars**, or **Stacked**.

Select **Edit as PromQL** to write the query yourself, and **Add query** to plot several on one chart. The legend shows each series' latest, peak, and total; click a series to show only it, or shift-click to toggle it.

Not sure where to start? The empty page suggests **Spend by model**, **Tokens by harness**, **Model calls by provider**, and **Spend by person**.

**Copy link** shares the exact query, **Auto-refresh** updates it every 30 seconds, and **Add to dashboard** saves it to an existing or new dashboard.

## Dashboards

Open **Metrics → Dashboards** to see your dashboards, each with a live preview.

### Create a dashboard

Select **New dashboard** and choose:

* **Blank** — start empty, with room for up to 24 widgets
* **From a template** — start from one of Terma's templates

Give it a name and description, and choose the time window it **Opens on**.

### Edit a dashboard

Select **Edit** to drag and resize widgets, and **Add widget** to add one. Changes save automatically, and you can undo them.

A widget is one of:

| Type | Shows |
| - | - |
| **Timeseries** | One or more series over time, as lines, areas, bars, or stacked |
| **Stat** | A single number |
| **Pie** | Shares of a total |
| **Table** | Values per series |
| **Text** | Notes in Markdown |

Each widget holds up to six queries, built with the metric picker or written in PromQL. A widget can follow the dashboard's time window or pin its own. From a widget's menu you can edit, open it in Explore, duplicate, resize, or delete it.

### View a dashboard

Choose a time window — 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours (the default), 7 days, or 30 days. The window is part of the URL, so **Copy link** shares exactly what you see.

  `terma usage` runs the same kind of query as the dashboard's usage figures, and its JSON output includes the exact expressions it used under `queries`.
